Men’s Headshot Tips

Here are some top tips for men’s professional headshots, especially if you’re coming to my studio in Woolton, Liverpool:

Dress to Impress

Choose clothing that reflects your industry. For corporate roles, go for a well-fitted suit jacket or a crisp shirt. For creative or tech roles, smart-casual options, like a plain shirt or a simple jumper, work well. Avoid busy patterns, as they can distract from your face.

Grooming Counts

Pay attention to your hair and facial hair. A quick trim can make all the difference. If you’re clean-shaven, shave the night before to avoid any redness. Keep your hair neat but natural; a small amount of product can help control any stray hairs without looking over-styled.

Know Your Best Side

Many people have a preferred side that feels more photogenic. If you have one, let me know, and I’ll make sure we highlight it, and if you don’t know, not to worry, by the end of the shoot you will know

Stick to Neutral Colours

Solid, neutral tones like navy, grey, and white are flattering and won’t distract from your face. Try to avoid bright colours, as they can cast an unwanted hue on your skin and dominate the images.

Relax and Breathe

Professional headshots shouldn’t look stiff or forced. Take a few deep breaths, loosen up, and I’ll guide you into natural poses that capture your personality. I work very well with you to get the best images, don’t worry about being nervous, most people are, it’s my job to get the best of you through my lens.

Bring a Spare Outfit

It’s always a good idea to bring an extra shirt, blazer, or tie, just in case. This gives us more choice on the day and ensures you have a variety of looks in your final images.

Stay Hydrated and Rested

A good night’s sleep and staying hydrated will help your skin look fresh and natural. A little bit of preparation goes a long way towards a polished, professional look.

Think About the Image You Want to Project

Consider how you want to be perceived, approachable, confident, friendly. Together, we’ll tailor your poses, expressions, and setup to capture the right look for you.

Your headshot should reflect who you are today, helping you stand out in Liverpool’s competitive market.
